Tricalcium Phosphate

Tricalcium Phosphate (TCP) — Food Grade, Pharma Grade & Feed Grade Calcium Phosphate

  • May 07

If your business handles food fortification, pharmaceutical tableting, or animal nutrition, you probably know how much the right mineral ingredient matters. Tricalcium Phosphate (TCP, CAS 7758-87-4) is one of those workhorse materials — used across industries for decades — but it only performs when purity, particle behavior, and compliance are right.

At SNOWHITE CHEMICAL CO., LTD, we supply high-purity TCP built to international specifications. Whether you need food-grade E341(iii), pharmaceutical-grade excipient, or feed-grade calcium phosphate, consistency and traceability come standard.

What Is Tricalcium Phosphate (TCP)?

Tricalcium Phosphate (tribasic calcium phosphate) is a calcium salt of phosphoric acid with the molecular formula Ca₃(PO₄)₂ and a molecular weight of 310.18 g/mol. The FDA classifies it as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe), and it is listed as food additive E341(iii) under EU regulations.

TCP serves as a nutritional supplement, anti-caking agent, pH regulator, and buffering agent in food, pharmaceutical, and animal feed applications.

Appearance & Physical Properties

Tricalcium Phosphate is a fine, white, odourless, tasteless amorphous or crystalline powder. It is stable in air and thermally robust.

Available Grades

Food Grade: Meets Food Chemicals Codex standards. Suitable for dairy, cereals, dry beverage mixes, confectionery, seasonings, and processed meat. Typical purity: assay ≥90.0% (as Ca₃(PO₄)₂ on ignited basis), Ca content 34.0%–40.0%.

Pharma Grade: Conforms to British Pharmacopoeia and United States Pharmacopeia monographs. Used as a tablet excipient, calcium supplement base, and controlled-release formulation ingredient.

Feed Grade: Standard component in livestock and poultry premixes, providing calcium (38–40%) and phosphorus (18–20%) to support bone density and eggshell quality.

Key Applications

Food & Beverage — functions as a calcium fortifier, anti-caking agent, pH regulator, and buffer in flour products, milk powder, candy, pudding, condiments, and powdered beverages. Improves flowability in dry mixes and adds nutritional value.

Pharmaceuticals & Nutraceuticals — tablet binder, filler, and polishing agent in chewable vitamins and antacids. Used in bone health supplements for its favourable bioavailability and slow-release calcium profile.

Animal Feed & Pet Food — critical source of calcium and phosphorus for livestock, poultry, and companion animals, supporting growth and skeletal development.

Industrial Use — polishing agent, flame-retardant additive, and soil-enhancing fertiliser component.

Why Source from SNOWHITE CHEMICAL?

Reliable, transparent specifications — TCP assay meets or exceeds compendial requirements (assay ≥90.0% for food/pharma, Ca 34.0%–40.0%). Heavy metals controlled to ≤10 ppm as Pb.

Certifications that match your audit needs — FCC, USP, and EP-compliant grades available, supported by lot-specific Certificates of Analysis (COA) and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

Practical packaging — 25 kg HDPE bags with inner liner, protecting against moisture during transport and storage.

Pricing that reflects real order volumes — we offer volume flexibility and can tailor specifications to your formulation.

The global TCP market is projected to grow at a CAGR of approximately 3.2% to 4.2% from 2025 to 2030, driven by demand for fortified foods, dietary supplements, and animal nutrition. Working with a supplier who understands specification-driven procurement helps you stay competitive.
